DEALING WITH THE STRESS OF CHANGE!
By: Pastor Michael Duffy, Jr.
My wife and I are in the process of selling our home. We are looking forward to the changes that will come at the end of this process, but gosh, getting to that end is surely stressful.
The one thing in our lives that we really can never prepare enough for is the stress that comes our way when things change in our lives. At some level, most of us want to change something (maybe everything) in our lives; we just don’t want to have to go through the process that is always a part of changing. I often say that we Christians all want to go to heaven, we just don’t want to have to die to get there! Now that, is a very big change indeed.
Jesus knew that each of us was going to have issues and stress surrounding our decisions to walk away from the person we were before we met Him, and become the person He has called us to be. Jesus spoke directly to this stressful personal change we must each deal with when He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT. In this crazy, stressed out world we find ourselves in, doesn’t a little REST sound good to you right now? You bet it does!
Here is my stress reduction prescription for you today; The first and foremost thing we must do to reduce stress in our lives, is to be a QUITTER. Quit trying to do everything yourself. Quit trying to solve all your problems yourself. Quit trying so hard to be a success, or to be valuable to someone…anyone. Just quit, and let Jesus have it all. Trust me, He’s got this, whether you let Him have it or not. He doesn’t need your help carrying the load. He needs you to trust Him enough to know that He can, He will, and He wants to carry all of your stuff for you. He also wants to carry you. Please let go of what is holding you down and give that load (whatever it may be) to the One who will carry your load and you all the way to heaven’s gates. Doesn’t that sound good right now? You bet it does!
You value is always going to be high, because of the One who made you and called you to be His own. Think about just how valuable that makes you! I pray you will. You can bet I will!!!
